We are proud to announce the launch of SickCells.org

Inspiring Change

Sick Cells’ mission is to elevate the voices of the sickle cell disease (SCD) community and their stories of resilience. In highlighting the grave disparities the SCD community faces, Sick Cells hopes to influence decision-makers and propel change. Sick Cell’s ambassadors work tirelessly to improve the quality of life and care for people living with the most common genetic disorder.

It was a privilege to work with the wonderful people at Sick Cells and build them a website worthy of such an empowering organization.

In Loving Memory

During the web project Sick Cells’ Co-Founder, Marqus Valentine passed away at the young age of 36.

Marqus battled with SCD all his life, but he never let it stop him from fighting to better the lives around him. He was dedicated to elevating the voices of the sickle cell community. His triumphs, resilience, perseverance, positivity and wholehearted devotion to uplifting others in every way he could was inspiring.

The loss of someone so high-spirited and young came as a shock for our team. It didn’t seem fair that such a kind soul could be taken away so early in life. Unfortunately this is a story all too familiar for people living with SCD. Sickle cell disease causes a wide range of health issues and many of Sick Cell’s warriors have been lost way too soon.

Losing Marqus was incredibly sad, but that sadness helped us understand the seriousness of SCD and the gravity of Sick Cell’s work. Our team felt a heavy responsibility to create a website that would honor Marqus’ legacy and enhance Sick Cell’s mission.

Marqus touched the lives of so many people with his kind heart. As co-founder of Sick Cells Marqus’s legacy will live on through the organization he helped shape and the community he built. He will be  greatly missed by his family, the SCD community, and everyone here at Sabra.
