Our team at Sabra has had the privilege of partnering with Bread for the City for over a decade. Ten years ago, we built the 2nd iteration of their website, but a lot has changed since then. Technology has rapidly evolved, and we knew it was time to breathe new life into Bread for the City’s online presence.
Bread for the City was our first Concierge client, and this special relationship enabled us to truly understand how they operate and the evolving needs of their organization. As their long-term design partner, we have an intimate understanding of Bread for the City’s work and the needs of their diverse community. For years, we’ve collaborated closely with their team, designing fundraising materials and event collateral, as well as managing the health of their current website. This close collaboration allowed us to compile a comprehensive list of new functionality and ideas that we believed would greatly improve their website. We didn’t just set out to design a sleek new interface – our goal was to craft an online experience that truly reflects the heart and soul of this remarkable nonprofit.
One of our top priorities was ensuring that Bread for the City’s diverse clientele, many of whom speak Spanish, Amharic, and Mandarin, could seamlessly access the organization’s resources. Gone are the days of manual translations and clunky multi-language sites. With the power of Google Translate and AccessiBe’s accessibility features, Bread for the City’s website now opens its doors to all, regardless of language or ability.
But accessibility is just the beginning. We wanted to make it easier than ever for Bread for the City’s community to engage, volunteer, and stay informed. Their revamped events calendar allows staff to effortlessly manage recurring programs, while a streamlined volunteer sign-up process removes barriers to getting involved.
Perhaps most exciting is the renewed focus on Bread for the City’s powerful storytelling. Their blog, a treasure trove of inspiring narratives, now takes center stage, with featured articles seamlessly integrated into service pages. Visitors can not only learn about Bread for the City’s offerings, but also glimpse the real-world impact they have on individuals and families.
Behind the scenes, we worked closely with Bread for the City’s team to create an even more intuitive and user-friendly content management system. While their previous website backend was already quite straightforward, we wanted to take it to the next level. No more struggling to find and update pages or search for photos that fit into oddly shaped frames – the new website empowers staff across all departments to seamlessly maintain a fresh, vibrant online presence.
Our focus on creating easy-to-use backends is a hallmark of our work, but this time the Bread for the City team hit the ground running without needing any training, which is a true testament to how intuitive the new system is. We’re proud to have built a content management experience that empowers Bread for the City’s staff to effortlessly keep their website up-to-date, without any roadblocks or frustrations.
